Horses get Final Preps for Hambo Day Spectacular

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ— With two weeks remaining in the Meadowlands’ championship meet, eliminations were contested for the U.S. Pacing Championship, with preps for the Miss New Jersey and New Jersey Classic being contested as well.

On Friday night, one elimination was held for the Merrie Annabelle and two for the Peter Haughton Memorial.

After brushing to the top past the half, Lifetime Pursuit kicked clear of original pace setter Cooler Schooner to win the Merrie Annabelle elimination in 1:55.2.

Cooler Schooner got the lead, with Heaven’s Door gunning from the gate and got caught first over trying to get the lead to the quarter timed in :28. Heaven’s Door went off stride entering the backstretch, soon recovering and trotting in fifth first over to the half. Lifetime Pursuit saw the recovered filly on the outside and flushed first over at the half in :57.4 (:29.4). Into the far turn, Lifetime Dream dictated the terms and Struck By Lindy pulled first over from third, supplying cover to Heaven’s Door. Lifetime Pursuit was in front at three-quarters in 1:27 (:29.1).

Lifetime Dream drew away by two lengths from Cooler Schooner, soon taking second, at the top of the stretch. Heaven’s Door fanned three wide in an attempt to chase down the top two, while Struck By Lindy was trying to hold on to fourth. Lifetime Dream was clear for victory entering the eighth pole and earned a choice of postposition once crossing the wire in front. Cooler Schooner finished second, Heaven’s Door was third and Struck By Lindy was fourth. Joining Cee Bee Yes and Shake It Cerry, who received byes, in the final are Fortunes Of Fables, Moonlight In Miami, Steppin Out and Love Detective.

Lifetime Dream is a two-year-old filly by Cantab Hall, out of the mare Queen Of Grace by Yankee Glide. She is owned by Brittany Farms, trained by Jimmy Takter and Yannick Gingras was in the bike, steering the freshman to a 1:55.2 victory and a payout tag of $2.60 on the win.

Public choice Southwind Spirit lived up to the hype on the tote board, winning the first of two eliminations for the Peter Haughton Memorial in 1:57.3.

Derby was the races early leader, Great Society followed him in second and Quikwit was working to make the lead, first over in third to the quarter in :29.3. Quikwit took the lead at the three-eighths mark just as Southwind Spirit began his pursuit of the lead, leading the two wide flow mid-way down the backstretch. Quikwit was under no pressure at the half in :59.3 (:30). Southwind Spirit inched closer to be within a head of the lead at three-quarters in 1:28.3 (:29.3).

Derby shifted off his spot at the pylons in third and began his bid at the head of the stretch. Southwind Spirit had overtaken Quikwit, but Derby appeared to be a threat in the center of the track. Southwind Spirit viewed him as no menace, winning the first Peter Haughton elimination in 1:57.3. Derby was second, Quikwit was third, Great Society was fourth and Well Built, off a break at the start, completed the top five.

The frosh-colt trotter is sired by Muscle Hill, out of the mare Spice On Ice by Pine Chip. Southwind Spirit is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Stable 45, trained by Ron Burke and Yannick Gingras was behind in the pilot seat, guiding the $2.60 winner to victory.

Completing the Friday night eliminations was the second Peter Haughton elimination, which defined Father Patrick, a full brother to freshman champion Pastor Stephen, as the one to beat next afternoon. Allowing Nuncio to cut fractions of :28.3, :57.3 (:29) and 1:26.3 (:29), Father Patrick was directed to make his move nearing the three-quarter pole.

At the top of the stretch, Nuncio and Father Patrick had 15 lengths on Kapow Hanover trotting in third and Song In My Heart trying to recover from a break in fourth. Cameras, eyes, tickets were focused on the stretch duel between Nuncio at the pylons and Father Patrick on his right flank. As the light of the wire came closer, Father Patrick was lunging his might at Nuncio, which at the wire, would prove devastating for the Jim Oscarsson-trainee, taking runner-up honors to Father Patrick in 1:53.4 (:27.1). Song In My Heart was third, Kapow Hanover was fourth and Jj Alex finished fifth.

Father Patrick, a two-year-old colt by Cantab Hall, out of the mare Gala Dream by Enjoy Lavec, is owned by Father Patrick Stable, trained by Jimmy Takter and Yannick Gingras completed his sweep of the evening’s stakes action, driving Father Patrick to a lifetime and national season’s mark of 1:53.4.

The Saturday evening race card opened with the $20,000 Miss New Jersey prep, taken by I Luv The Nitelife in 1:50.3.

Jk Letitgo was fast off the gate’s dispersal, getting a pocket to sit in heading to the quarter. Ideal Ginny was in behind her, leaving Ms Caila J Fra parked and forced to go to the front at the quarter in :27.1. I Luv The Nitelife tracked her and was patient in her approach to the front, clearing before the half-mile mark. Jerseylicious got away trailing the field and began devouring ground at the half, leading those two wide at the half in :54 (:26.4). Jerseylicious was up to I Luv The Nitelife’s wheel at the mid-point of the far turn. The two battled at three-quarters in 1:22.3 (:28.3).

Ms Caila J Fra angled out of the pocket and attempted to catch the battlers, instead flattening out and racing for minor honors. Johny Rock took the front, with Wake Up Peter in the pocket and stable mate Emeritus Maximus sitting third. Johny Rock took the field by the quarter in :27.1. Bolt The Duer got away quick and took the front at the quarter in :26.3. Dynamic Youth got away in the pocket and Sweet Lou was progressing first over, being parked at the quarter. Following him was A Rocknroll Dance, Modern Legend and Thinking Out Loud. Sweet Lou took a narrow advantage at the half in :55 (:28.2). Sweet Lou cleared the front into the far turn, leaving A Rocknroll Dance to fend for himself in a first over grind to three-quarters. HarnessRaycer’s Picks July 27

We took a week off due to a week of action that did not look wager worthy and return tonight with bets at three different venues. Our last moneymaking attempt was on July 13, Meadowlands Pace day, where the only thing we got back was our $20 wager on Smilin Eli due to his scratch. Our losses that week made it the worst on record, but heading into week 5, we remain with a profit of $106.10. Good luck!

BANKROLL: $306.10

The Meadows

Race 7 - $50,000 Delvin Miller Adios Consolation 3yop

(5) Martini Hanover – He raced very well in his elimination last week, being flushed first over and pressuring leader Sunfire Blue Chip to three-quarters, going in :27.2; Martini Hanover paced there in :27. Although he faltered drastically soon after the battle, he gets a dose of class relief that he desperately needs. He raced against the cream of the crop for most of the summer and now gets a shot for victory against second-string stakes horses.

Plays: $4 across the board on 5            Cost: $12

Race 12 - $450,000 Adios Final 3yop

(8) Word Power – He paced the elimination mile entirely off the pylons, getting cover from Martini Hanover as they passed the grandstand for the first time. Making their way around the final turn, he lost a slight bit of ground when Some Kinda Beach tried to squeeze his way to the outside. The Larry Remmen-trainee eventually regained his momentum, flying down the center of the track to get nosed at the wire by race leader Sunfire Blue Chip. Seeing as this is his first year on the track, he still has room for improvement, even with an outside post. The colt has gate-speed, which should get him into the mix and he has a ton of power, shown by his first-over miles in both the Hempt elimination and the final. He got a two-week break and should be fresh with a race under his belt.

Plays: $10 Win and Place on 8, $2 exacta box 2,3,8    Cost: $32

Meadowlands Racetrack

Race 4 - $25,000 New Jersey Classic Prep 3yop

(6) Real Rocker – Ships back east off of a tremendous effort at Balmoral Park, sitting a pocket trip, then pulling second over to three quarters, kicking home in :27.2 to finish second in the Hanover Stakes. His last meeting with this group was in the New Jersey Sires Stakes, where he won a preliminary, but parked the mile in the final yet closed to finish sixth. He has shown improvement and will be up to the task to defeat foes that beat him.

Plays: $6 Win and Place on 6              Cost: $12

Race 7 - $50,000 U.S. Pacing Championship Elimination FFA Pace

(6) Hurrikane Kingcole – He seemed to return to his champion form in his last start, crushing free for all horses on “Pace” night in 1:47.3. His history with this group will only heighten his price, as he was sick for a few weeks and now has returned to blazing-fast form.

Plays: $15 Win on 6     Cost: $15

Race 9 - $22,500 Last Chance for the C-Notes Final (C-2 Classified Pacers)

(1) Cheyenne Reider – He has two starts against this group under his belt. In his first meeting with C-2 pacers, he left the gate slow, getting shuffled to last and closed to finish second. His second outing against this group came from post 10, leaving the gate quick for a spot, sitting a pocket trip while holding off Freddy Day Hanover, who was trying to clear the lead. Into this final, he draws the rail, which should allow him to save himself for the stretchdrive.

Plays: $10 Win on 1     Cost: $10

Yonkers Raceway

Race 4 - $27,500 Non-Winners of $18,000 Last 6 Pace

(1) Connery Blue Chip – The Art Major gelding has been competing against much better in his last four starts, as well as having no luck coming to the postposition draw. Looking five starts back, he raced against this group, coming out victorious. He went into that race dropping from the non-winners of $25,000 group. He draws nicely this week and is making the same move into this race that provided victory.

TRI's Picks July 25 Mohawk

By Nicholas “Ace” Barnsdale

Nicholas “Ace” Barnsdale, known as Shadow The Ace on Facebook, is the son of broadcast handicapper and writer Garnet Barnsdale. He too is a young racing aficionado that will be a regular writer on The Racing Inquirer. The Ontario native will have a focus on the WEG circuit, as well as writing previews for big events, columns and race reviews. He is welcomed as a new member of The Racing Inquirer. The thoughts of Nicholas Barnsdale are not that of The Racing Inquirer’s.

Mohawk Racetrack Pick 4, Races 4-7, Thursday, July 25, 2013

On Saturday, we went two-for-four, with our losses being the first two legs. But luckily that combo only cost $24 for a $2 play, which brings us to a loss total of $206. But that could change in one night, so we’ll see if we can start the turnaround tonight.

$2 Play: 2,7/3,6/4,6/2,8 = $36.

Analysis:

Race 4- (2) PUTMEINTOGO has been doing well after a step up to this class. He seems to be doing better than the other starters at this class. She has been improving lately and should be sharp tonight. (7) LYONSSWEETIE has also been racing at higher classes lately, with his most recent showing at this class resulting in a second. He has been sharp against tougher groups recently, making him our preferred choice.

Race 5-
(3) ROCKNROLL HARMONY had a bad trip and post position last time. Coming from post 9, he got away far off the pace and could only make up so much ground. Reasoning for his last off the pace effort can be blamed on his sick scratch on July 6, likely needing a start to return to a winning groove. (6) BLACKBIRD SINGING won his last race at this level. He came into the stretch with a burst of speed, gaining 6-and-a-half lengths to win in 1:51. He is showing signs of peaking and will be on the board come the wire.

Race 6- (4) NORTHERN VICTORY quit in his last start due to a first over bid. He was a major threat in this group before his last start, the form he should be returning to with the right trip. (6) HOUSE MONEY is coming off a game effort against this bunch. He got a pocket to ride for a majority of the mile and snuck past rivals to gain runner-up honors. He is a contender within the value market, which if his morning line is correct in its prediction of post time odds, then a game effort and great price will ride on his back.

Race 7- (2) REQUEST FOR PAROLE has been a threat in the Town Pro series, heading into the final with a win and a second in the preliminaries. She won the second leg from on the pace, while the second place effort came from an off-the-pace position. She receives post relief in the final, placing a bigger role in the battle to the winners’ circle. (8) LEAVEUMLADY won the first leg of the Town Pro with ease. She skipped the remaining preliminaries to enter in the big dance, the Canadian Breeders’ Championship. She got to the final, posing no threat to eventual winner Love Canal. She races agaisnt a weaker group this week, one that she has already defeated and should do so again.

A Rocknroll Dance Sat Behind “Battle” to Romp in Lake Erie Final

NORTHFIELD,OH— A Rocknroll Dance got away in the pocket behind race leader Aracache Hanover while he battled with State Treasurer through unheard-of fractions, eventually pulling the pocket and striding away from everyone to win the $120,500 Battle of Lake Erie final in a world record 1:49.1.

Aracache Hanover left the gate and got the front, while A Rocknroll Dance tucked into second and Foiled Again in third. State Treasurer was wide into the turn and, with nowhere to settle, was sent for the front. Aracache Hanover parked him out by the quarter in :26.1. State Treasurer nearly cleared the lead in the front straightaway, but Aracache Hanover was game to holding dictation. The two continued the war passed the half in :53 (:26.4).

(JJ Zamaiko Photo)
A Rocknroll Dance was in the pocket behind the battlers entering the backstretch. Foiled Again began tracking the cover of State Treasurer heading to three-quarters, with Thinking Out Loud pacing third over. Thinking Out Loud fanned three wide and Clear Vision followed him from the cones. Aracache Hanover had won the fight with State Treasurer at three-quarters in 1:21 (:28). State Treasurer soon went off-stride around the turn, interfering with Foiled Again.

A Rocknroll Dance had open road at the head of the stretch and, thanks to the speed-duel on the lead, cleared the lead with ease. Rockin Finish rode the pylons and took over second, with Clear Vision flying down the center of the track into third, but A Rocknroll Dance was 4 lengths clear of the lot at the wire, stopping the clock in a track and world record of 1:49.1 (:28.1).

A Rocknroll Dance ($9.80) is owned by A Rocknroll Dance Stables, trained by Jim Mulinix and was driven by Kayne Kauffman. The son of Rocknroll Hanover has surpassed the $2-million plateau in his second win of the season.

Market Share Crushes Foes in Maple Leaf Trot

CAMPBELLVILLE, ON— The Saturday night race card at Mohawk Racetrack was headlined by the C$543,000 Maple Leaf Trot and the C$323,500 Roses Are Red finals, with Market Share destroying the other seven starters in the Maple Leaf Trot and Anndrovette taking the Roses Are Red in a Canadian record of 1:48.

Anndrovette left for the lead, with Bettor B Lucky getting away second and Drop The Ball in third. Anndrovette passed the quarter in :26.2. Drop The Ball pulled the pocket from third and brushed to the front with ease heading to the halfway point. Monkey On My Wheel was flushed first over from fifth and she attempted to get cover passing the half in :53.2 (:27). Rocklamation was up to the task entering the far turn, leading the two wide flow on their march towards race leader Drop The Ball. Anndrovette was patient in the pocket and slowly edged out heading to three-quarters. Drop The Ball led the field passing three-quarters in 1:20.1 (:26.4).

Drop The Ball’s only rival was Anndrovette. The two were 4 lengths clear of Rocklamation trying to gain ground in third and Bettor B Lucky looking for room. Anndrovette brushed alongside of Drop The Ball in the final sixteenth and with appearing ease went by and won by half a length in a Canadian record of 1:48 (:27.4). Drop The Ball settled for second, Rocklamation rallied for third and Krispy Apple snuck up the pylons to finish fourth.

Anndrovette ($5.20) defended her Roses Are Red title in fine style. The daughter of Riverboat King is owned by Bamond Racing LLC and Joe Davino, trained by Paul Fraley and was driven by Tim Tetrick to a lifetime best 1:48 mile, setting a track, stakes and Canadian record in the process.

Driver Tim Tetrick received redemption after his narrow loss in last year’s Maple Leaf Trot with Market Share, crushing his competitors by 2-and-a-half lengths in 1:51.1.

Knows Nothing was sent to the lead, with Arch Madness in second and Wishing Stone third heading to the quarter. Market Share was put into fourth 6 lengths off of Knows Nothing at the quarter in :26.3. Guccio made a break in the trailing position as the field entered the backstretch. Arch Madness brushed to the top from the pocket passing three-eighths and Wishing Stone tracked him as he cleared the front at the half in :54.3 (:28).

Entering the far turn, Mister Herbie was first over beginning his pursuit from the back. Market Share was flushed out and began moving up quickly heading to three-quarters. Wishing Stone had lost the lead to Market Share at the three-quarter pole in 1:24 (:29.2). Market Share kicked clear by 2 lengths at the head of the stretch. Mister Herbie was all-out giving chase in second, while Wishing Stone was trying to hold onto third and Uncle Peter closing hard from in between horses. No one got close to Market Share at the end; he took the Maple Leaf Trot in 1:51.1 (:27.1) with Mister Herbie finishing second, Uncle Peter was third and Wishing Stone finished fourth.

By Revenue S, Market Share ($2.80) is owned by Richard Gutnick, T L P Stables and William Augustine, trained by Linda Toscano and Tim Tetrick was in the bike sweeping Mohawk’s featured events.

Sunfire Blue Chip and Lonewolf Currier at Top Form in Adios Eliminations

WASHINGTON, PA— The Grand Circuit made it’s annual visit to The Meadows, where two eliminations for the Delvin Miller Adios were contested on Saturday night.

Sunfire Blue Chip made his move to the front the first time in the stretch, fighting off all challengers up until the wire, taking the first Adios elimination in 1:50.3.

Some Kinda Beach was sent to the front and was parked out by Sunfire Blue Chip to the quarter. Evenin Of Pleasure got away in third and Martini Hanover was pacing fourth passed the first quarter in :26.3. Dave Palone brought Sunfire Blue Chip out of the pocket and brushed to the top passing the three-eighths pole. Word Power was looking for cover in fifth, Martini Hanover flushed out and zeroed-in on leader Sunfire Blue Chip at the half in :55 (:28.2).

Martini Hanover applied pressure to Sunfire Blue Chip down the backstretch. Word Power was stalking the battlers second over, while Some Kinda Beach got a pocket ride heading to three-quarters. Sunfire Blue Chip was still on top at three-quarters in 1:22.2 (:27.2). Martini Hanover was faltering, forcing Word Power to go three wide. Some Kinda Beach was struggling for racing room and eventually got out of the pocket entering the stretch. Sunfire Blue Chip still had the lead, Word Power was flying down the center of the track, but Sunfire Blue Chip got to the wire first by a nose in 1:50.3 (:28.1). Word Power was second, Some Kinda Beach was third and Evenin Of Pleasure took fourth.

Sunfire Blue Chip ($4.60), a son of American Ideal, emerged victorious for owners Christina Takter, John and Jim Fielding, Brixton Medical Ab and R A W Equine Inc. Jimmy Takter is the trained and Dave Palone sat in the bike.

It was lights out at the head of the stretch in elimination two, where Lonewolf Currier battled through fierce fractions with Sunshine Beach and digging in up until the wire to hold of closing Ultimate Beachboy and Vegas Vacation in 1:48.4.

Beach Memories launched from the far outside taking the lead early, Ultimate Beachboy followed him but took the pocket and Eddie Sweat paced into third. Lonewolf Currier was fourth heading to the quarter with Sunshine Beach behind him. Beach Memories went by the quarter in :26.2. John Campbell gave the cue to Lonewolf Currier, pulling first over and clearing the front passing the wire with a circuit remaining. Sunshine Beach tracked his move and was left to fight first over passing the half in :54.1 (:27.4).

The leaders sprinted down the backstretch with Sunshine Beach trying to clear the front from Lonewolf Currier. Beach Memories watched the battle unfold in third and Vegas Vacation gapped cover from Sunshine Beach in fourth. Sunshine Beach stuck his head in front at three-quarters in 1:20.3 (:26.2). His lead would come to a quick close as he began to gallop. Vegas Vacation was left first over at this point beginning his bid; Ultimate Beachboy dived to the passing lane closing fast. Lonewolf Currier held command, Ultimate Beachboy lunged one final time at the pylons to try and claim victory, but failed. Lonewolf Currier held on by a head in 1:48.3. Ultimate Beachboy settled for second, Vegas Vacation gave chase in third and Beach Memories completed the qualifying quartet.

Lonewolf Currier ($12.80), sired by The Panderosa, is owned by Fran Azur, trained by Kevin McDermott and was steered by John Campbell to a lifetime best of 1:48.3.

Public choice Western Conquest, along with Gotta Laugh Again, broke into the opening turn, immediately opening up the race for other foes. Forty Five Red led the field by the quarter in :28.4. Thereisapaceforus sat the pocket and Disarrei was in third. Stevensville came first over into the stretch, with stablemate Gotta Laugh Again following him. Forty Five Red paced by the half in :59 (:30.1). Stevensville inched closer and applied pressure to Forty Five Red heading to three-quarters, timed in 1:27.3 (:28.3).

Forty Five Red drew away from Thereisapaceforus at the top of the stretch. Stevensville was trying to rally, Disarrei was coming up the passing lane with Golden Parachute alongside as Forty Five Red crossed the line 2 lengths in front of Thereisapaceforus in 1:55.4 (:28.1). Disarrei was third and Golden Parachute finished fourth.

Forty Five Red returned $7.60 to win. The son of If I Can Dream was victorious for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC and Our Horse Cents Stables. He is trained by Ron Burke and was guided to victory by Daniel Dube.

Mohawk Racetrack Pick 4, Races 4-7, Saturday, July 20, 2013
Our Friday night ticket was a big investment, resulting in only two of the four legs we hit. We came close in the two events we lost last night, with our choices giving us a race and finishing on the board. Last night we were counting the $1 bet, bringing or loss total to a $182. However, there are a few chalk busters thrown in here tonight. Good luck!
$2 Play: 3/3,8/6,10/5,6,8 =$24
Analysis:
Race 4- (3) VIPER SELECT set a lifetime mark in his most recent mile. Now, he is making a step up in class. He draws well tonight, which should allow him to race from his usual postion. We can expect a sharp effort from him this week.
Race 5- (3) MURMUR HANOVER looks sharp off of an impressive victory in the Canadian Breeders Championship elimination. He made a three wide move to brush to the top at the half-mile pole and cleared the front, holding off all challengers to the wire as the favorite. He is developing well his sophomore year and should be sharp tonight. (8) GOTTA SECRET lost his elimination by half a length to MURMUR HANOVER in a closing effort. He is showing signs of improvement and certainly has the class to win this event, looking back to his third place effort in the Goodtimes Trot.
Race 6- (6) MY MAN CHARLEY did very well at this class last time out, leading for most of the mile but receiving runner up honors at the line by three-quarters of a length. He has been racing better miles in his last few starts and should be impressive against this bunch. (10) ROCK ME AMASTREOS won in this class two starts back. He raced against tougher after that, pacing a decent mile. He is returning to the company he emerged victorious in two races back and should return to this class in his winning form.
Race 7- (5) UNCLE PETER ships to Mohawk with a victory at Pocono under his belt. He draws well for the Maple Leaf Trot and may need the assistance of a hot pace and a pocket ride to win this event, both of which are likely. (6) WISHING STONE should be great for a price. He beat UNCLE PETER convincingly in the Maxie Lee stakes, rating well on the lead and drawing clear. We will look for him to be forwardly placed and attack the leaders late in the mile. (8) MARKET SHARE has not lost a race so far this year. In two starts, he won both from off the pace by gunning down the leader until the very end. He will not be a good price for value in this event, so a triactor box with these three contenders is wise for making profit.

TRI’s Picks July 19 Mohawk

Mohawk Racetrack Pick 4, Races 4-7, Friday, July 19, 2013
Last night was a disappointing result, only managing to win two of four legs. We didn't spend too much on that play either. But, that’s another $12 onto our loss total, bringing it to a hefty $82. Hopefully we can turn it around tonight!

$1 Play: 4, 7/4, 5, 10/1, 2, 8/1, 5, 8 = $54 ($.20 Play = $10.80)

Analysis:

Race 4- (4) WINDSONG JACOBA has been racing well at this class lately, disregarding his last race in the Ontario Sires Stakes. Two starts ago, he gave chase to the leader, but that was against slightly better. Before that, he came out of the pocket from post 10 and strided away from rivals, a move that should earn him a victory tonight. (7) HILARIOUS HAYLEY has been overtaken in the final strides on the lead twice now, both resulting in third place efforts. Due to the lack of speed tonight, she should be able to pace comfortable fractions and pull away from the field in the stretch.

Race 5- (4) ALIBI SEELSTER is a two-year-old filly showing some great form in her career, having only lost one start. She made an uncharacteristic break in her last start but we can expect immediate improvement, pacing a faster mile than any of her rivals today. (5) PERFORMING ART made the driver switch from Jody Jamison to Sylvain Filion last time, appearing like a positive change. She is coming off a win and returning to the Mohawk oval, where she should be forwardly placed and in the mix late. (10) SUDOKU won her first career start at Rideau Carlton in a division of Ontario Sires Stakes. She is eligible for improvement off that victory as she gets ready to make her second appearance on the track. She will be at a disadvantage coming from the outside and is stepping up in class, but she should leave the gate and get a spot where she can track cover and get into contention.

Race 6- (1) COUGAR HALL skipped leg one of the Summertime series, but comes in sharp with two victories in his belt. He gets post relief this week and should continue improving. (2) AUCKLAND FLYER will be good for a price. He hasn’t been impressive in his last two starts, but has a win three starts back in his fastest time on his past performances. He draws better this week, giving him a better advantage to hit the board. (8) LUCAN HANOVER won his last race. He did not draw well, but will be a major factor towards the end of the mile.

Race 7- (1) ARTHUR BLUE CHIP did well two starts back in a higher class than his most recent effort. His latest race was poor, but he should make a quick recovery and the rail draw will make this horse a strong contender tonight. (5) CRAFTY MASTER handled a big step up with ease last time out. In his last race, he easily went wire-wire, and took off in the stretch, extending to win by 4-and-a-half lengths. He should be a good contender in this mile and give his bettors a race. (8) TWIN B SPY had a good debut, easily breezing by the leader at the top of the stretch to win, timed in 1:53. However, he faces a talented field today and the hurdle of the eighth spot on the gate, making this his first major challenge. With the right trip, all of his obstacles will not be an issue.

Word Power winning at the Meadowlands
(Lisa Photo)
Sunfire Blue Chip is the one to beat in the first elimination. He set fast fractions on a sloppy going in the Max Hempt Final, coming a half-length short to division-leader Captaintreacherous. From the far outside, Word Power will look for the right trip to win this elim. He has paced two grueling first over miles in his last two starts, with his most recent mile being the most impressive. A majority of horses to his inside have gate speed, so he may have to leave hard to get a good spot. He will be able to compensate for that, as he should be stronger than his attempt in the Hempt due to a two-week layoff.

(Lisa Photo)

The only horse that could come close to beating Captaintreacherous this year, Vegas Vacation, will share favoritism with Sunshine Beach in elimination two. In between them is Resistance Futile, who has been showing tremendous improvement in his last three starts. He draws towards the rail this week, giving him the ability to easily be placed near the top and pursuit for the lead late.

TRI’s Picks July 18 Mohawk

Mohawk Racetrack Pick 4, Races 4-7, Thursday, July 18, 2013
On Saturday, we got 3 of 4 again on our ticket, so our profit for the year (if you have been betting the tickets for two bucks) is now a deficit of $70. Unfortunate, but tonight, we will turn it around.
$2 Play: 1/ 2, 9/ 5, 6, 7/ 2
Analysis:
Race 4- (1) THORN IN YOUR SIDE is a horse that has been showing good efforts and strong finishes lately. He finished fourth by a few last time out but went a whole second faster than anyone in this field. From the inside post I expect him to step up for a victory. Honestly, few horses will be in contention late, which makes him our key horse. He would be an amazing horse to bet for win if he go off in the 5-1 or higher plateau.
Race 5- (2) ROCKIN WITH DEWEY raced faster than all other horses in their last races, finishing third with a parked mile. She will likely take the lead and cut some fast fractions, being either beneficial or harmful, depending on if she is good enough to hold on tonight. (9) OZZY OZZY is his main rival. He closed like a jet two starts back, which should not be a problem from post 9 if he remains in that form. OZZY OZZY will also be a good horse to bet to win, or the 2, 9 exactor box, as I see a late stretch nail-biter between these two, by which OZZY OZZY should prove better.
Race 6- (5) SHADOW BARAN has been racing spectacularly at a slightly higher class lately and now makes a slight drop in class. His last performance is questionable, but this horse should roll right into improvement. However, he is in against a strong field tonight. (6) SILVER DRAGON who was racing well in higher classes, but not so well off a layoff last start. We are looking for some improvement from him, but our other horse looks much better than SILVER DRAGON. (7) AMBLE OVER HANOVER has been remarkable in his last few starts. It seems his most recent second place effort can be blamed by a slow middle half. This horse can slow it down and pull away in the stretch with ease.
Race 7- (2) VALLEY GLIDER has had some eye-catching performances lately. He’s in against a weaker field tonight and should be sharp. (9) SAMIRA HANOVER will be a contender in this event, but will likely help out VALLEY GLIDER in his path to the winners’ circle. She’ll likely set the fractions in this mile, while VALLEY GLIDER sits a comfortable trip and makes his move into the stretch. It should be an easy win for VALLEY GLIDER, but he is not worth a win bet, as he probably won’t go off above 6/5. In the event he is within the 2-1 plateau, easy money is at hand.
